Potential growth of the chocolate sector in Mexico presents opportunities for EU companies
In 2016, the chocolate sector in Mexico had a growth of 3.8%, as regards to the imports coming from EU. The main countries that export this product to Mexico are: Germany, France and The Netherlands; therefore, this presents a great opportunity for the European companies. The current strategy focuses on increasing the sales of gourmet products amongst Mexicans, that is, of high quality products. Currently per capita consumption in Mexico is 800 grams, which falls well below 12 and 9 kilograms per capita in countries like Switzerland and Austria, respectively, which indicates great growth opportunities. According to Euromonitor consulting firm, between 2016 and 2021 the sales of chocolate confectionery products may have an estimated annual growth of 5%, whereas the premium chocolate will grow at a rate of 4%.
