Argentina: opportunities in renewable energy
In Argentina it is estimated that 20 GW of new facilities will be required in the next decade, which would correspond to a total investment of USD 36 billion in energy generation and transmission. Half of this total will be directed to renewable energies.
The official Plan RENOVAR 2016-2025 of renewable energy purchase contracts has resulted in the following figures:
On October 7, 2016, the contracts of Round 1 of bidding were announced: 17 projects totaling 1,109 MW: 12 wind farms (708 MW), 4 sites and one 1 MW of biogas.
In Round 1.5 in November 2016, the government awarded a total of 30 projects: 10 wind farms of 765.4 MW and 20 sites, with a total of 516.2 MW.
The magazine Reve of Spain indicates that among the European firms that are part of the projects that were awarded is the Spanish wind firm Isolux; the German Engineering Nordex, merged with the Spanish company Acciona Windpower, the Danish Vestas, and the Italian IES Biogas of Italy
An additional round of bidding, Round 2, will take place in May 2017.
